Investigators Rule Warehouse Fire Arson, Suspect in Custody

Franklin County Jail
Robin Toms, 30, faces aggravated arson charges for the Monday morning warehouse fire.

Investigators say a massive fire at warehouse in west Columbus was intentional, and a suspect has been arrested on arson charges.

The blaze lit the skies for miles along I-70 in Columbus early Monday and led two schools to cancel classes. More than two dozen fire trucks and 75 firefighters responded.

Battalion Chief Tracy Smith says the fire destroyed about 80 percent of the 189,000-square-foot SJT Depot warehouse. The building contained mostly lawn work equipment, pallets and cardboard. No injuries were reported.

Fire Chief Kevin O'Connor says "community involvement" helped investigators catch the suspect.

Thirty-year-old Robin Toms is charged with aggravated arson. A telephone number for Toms couldn't be located, and it couldn't immediately be determined whether he has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
