A mediation agency says a central Ohio county has had more evictions filed over the past decade than anywhere else in the state.
Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio Executive Director Shelley Whalen says that Franklin County has filed about 19,000 evictions per year over the last 10 years.
The agency is calling for a greater focus on staggering the number of residents who face eviction as homelessness is still at a high level in the area.
It launched a housing stability and homelessness prevention program five years ago that supporters say has helped thousands of low-income residents resolve landlord-tenant disputes and get evictions dismissed among other services.
The agency has asked the county for funding as a grant for the program is expiring.
