A federal judge says the only remaining abortion clinics in southwest Ohio can remain open while fighting to keep their state operating licenses.
The Planned Parenthood clinic in Cincinnati and the Women’s Med Group clinic in Dayton sought the ruling. They’ve filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of abortion restrictions approved in the two most recent state budgets.
The state Department of Health said the clinics violated a new state law requiring them to have a transfer agreement with a nearby hospital.
The abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio says the restrictions are medically unnecessary, while pro-life group calls them common sense.
The ruling comes as state lawmakers consider a bill to zero out state funding of Planned Parenthood.
