Ohio's attorney general is challenging a new ordinance approved by Toledo voters that reduces penalties on all marijuana-related offenses.
Attorney General Mike DeWine says several parts of the measure go against Ohio law. He says that taking away all prison time and fines for felony marijuana trafficking convictions will encourage drug dealers to set up operations in the state's fourth-largest city.
He also is challenging part of the ordinance that prohibits Toledo police from reporting marijuana crimes to state and county agencies, including the prosecutor and children's services agencies.
DeWine filed a lawsuit in Toledo on Tuesday.
He wants a judge to put the ordinance on hold until the courts determine whether the new rules should be thrown out.
