Chess Teacher Rejects Plea Deal In Child Sex Abuse Case

Delaware County Sheriff's Office
F. Leon Wilson

Prosecutors say an Ohio chess teacher accused of sexually abusing children has rejected a plea agreement that would have dropped a mandatory prison sentence.

61-year-old F. Leon Wilson on Monday fired his second attorney, who arranged the agreement last weekend.

Delaware County prosecutors say the deal would require Wilson to plead guilty to three counts of attempted gross sexual imposition. He would have had to register as a sex offender every month for 25 years and could have faced up to 4  1/2 years in prison.

The Columbus teacher was charged with sexually abusing children in April, including a 4-year-old. He has maintained his innocence.

Wilson could face up to 31 years in prison if convicted. A trial date is set for Jan. 5.
