Officials of two Catholic universities in southwest Ohio plan to attend Washington events for Pope Francis' visit to the nation's capital.
Ohio Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown says he invited University of Dayton president Daniel Curran to the Wednesday arrival ceremony at the White House and to watch the pope's address to Congress on the south lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
Curran plans to step down as the school's president next June, after 14 years.
Xavier University in Cincinnati says its director of the Center for Faith and Justice will be at the White House on Wednesday, and outside Congress for the Thursday speech. Greg Carpinello heads the center in Xavier's office of student enrichment.
