Media, Lawmakers Seek Records In Ohio Charter School Flap

The Ohio Department of Education is being pressed to release public records detailing actions of an ousted charter schools director.

Major Ohio news outlets, including The Associated Press, and some Democratic lawmakers have requested documents detailing any communications former School Choice Director David Hansen may have had with the governor's office or the state superintendent, who's on the governor's Cabinet. Hansen is married to Republican Gov. John Kasich'spresidential campaign manager.

Hansen told the state school board July 15 he excluded failing grades of online and dropout recovery schools so they wouldn't "mask" successes elsewhere. Hansen resigned and the evaluations were retracted.

Some Ohio editorialists have decried the time elapsed in releasing records as stonewalling. An Education Department spokeswoman says the requests are in motion and will be fulfilled
