The longest-serving Democrat in the Ohio House is resigning his legislative seat as he faces allegations of violating state campaign finance law.
Rep. Ron Gerberry, of Mahoning County, has served 27 combined years in the Legislature.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien told The Associated Press on Tuesday that a joint investigation found Gerberry's campaign finance filings contained false information related to certain vendor transactions recorded as part of caucus fundraising.
He said Gerberry will enter a plea to that and potentially other charges in Youngstown in the next week or so. Gerberry's plea deal was first reported by The Vindicator in Youngstown.
A message was left at Gerberry's office seeking comment. A resignation letter submitted Friday says he'll step down Aug. 21.
