Gov. John Kasich will be a part of the first GOP debate later this week in Cleveland

Gov. John Kasich made the cut and will be one of the candidates on the stage Thursday in Cleveland for the GOP debate.

FOX News, the host of the debate in Cleveland this week, says Kasich is going to be one of the ten candidates on stage for the main event at 9pm. The network says it used polls to determine which of the 17 candidates would make the cut.

Kasich came in at 10th place.

The other nine are Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie.

But it’s not a total loss for the others in the race. Rick Perry, Carly Fiorina, Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum, Lindsay Graham, George Pataki and Jim Gilmore will get to be part of a smaller event in Cleveland at 5pm Thursday, also at Quicken Loans Arena.

Kasich said it's fitting that the first debate takes place in swing state Ohio, noting that no Republican has ever won the presidency without winning the state. He said he looks forward to discussing the issues with the other participants.
