Ohio's job picture is unchanged at the start of summer.
The June jobless rate remained at 5.2%. Department of Job and Family Services spokesman Ben Johnson says local government hiring kept Ohio's unemployment rate from rising last month.
School boards, cities, villages, and townships collectivey hired nearly 11-thousand new employees.
"We certainly don't expect to see a jump ten nearly 11-thousand jobs this time of year," says Johnson.
Johnson says local government hiring last month might be a "correction" after months of job losses. But, the government hiring occurred as the weather took a toll on seasonal hiring.
"We saw decreases in several summer industries that are weather dependent where normally we would see hiring this time of year but because of the rainy weather that hiring just didn't happen. We saw decreases in construction employment, decreases in arts, entertainment and recreation employment," says Johnson.
Overall, Ohio lost 1,900 jobs in June.
