Opponents are fighting a brewing proposal in Ohio that would extend term limits for state lawmakers from eight to 10 years.
The head of the Washington, D.C.-based group U.S. Term Limits plans to appear at a Statehouse news conference Thursday. The group supports limits on the consecutive number of years legislative and congressional representatives can serve.
The news conference was supposed to precede a meeting of the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission that was canceled Wednesday.
The commission is revisiting Ohio's state constitution and recommending changes. A subcommittee is weighing two separate recommendations extending term limits to 10 years in the Ohio House and Senate. One recommendation excludes sitting lawmakers, and one includes them.
House members currently may serve four consecutive 2-year terms. Senators may serve two consecutive 4-year terms.
