A top German diplomat plans to meet with Ohio's governor during a visit to the state, where he also is scheduled to appear at a forum to discuss his country's relationship with the U.S.
The German ambassador to the U.S., Peter Wittig, is slated to speak Thursday afternoon at a Columbus Metropolitan Club event. Organizers say he will talk about "the ongoing importance of the trans-Atlantic relationship in the face of an increasingly volatile international landscape."
Prior to his speaking event, Wittig is slated to meet behind closed doors with Republican Gov. John Kasich. Wittig also planned to meet with German companies doing business in Ohio.
Kasich met with Wittig about two years ago, though this visit comes as the governor weighs a potential presidential bid in 2016.
