Fire officials are working to determine what caused a large fire that destroyed a recycling facility in Columbus.
No injuries were reported in the Friday blaze at Phoenix Recycling Inc. Fire officials said no evacuations were necessary. But authorities had cautioned nearby residents to stay indoors Friday as thick black smoke filled the air. American Electric Power shut down power to over 20,000 residents as a precaution.
Firefighters expect it will take a few days to extinguish remaining hot spots. The building was a total loss.
About 100 people were working at the business when the fire started around 4 p.m. A fire department spokeswoman says it took at least five hours to bring the blaze under control.
