Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has voluntarily recalled of all of its ice creams and closed down its stores because of a possible Listeria contamination.
The recall includes their ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, and ice cream sandwiches, all flavors and containers.
Jeni Britton Bauer said in an online statement that “we made the swift decision to cease all ice cream production and sales until we can get to the very root of the problem.”
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture discovered the contamination during a random sample collection.
Jeni’s said it will work with its suppliers to determine if the bacteria were introduced by one of the ingredients it uses.
“We will not reopen the kitchen until we can ensure the safety of our customers," John Lowe, CEO Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.
The company said it’s not aware of anyone who has become sick. A spokesperson for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention said there are no reports of illness in the Jeni's recall at this time.
Customers are urged to dispose of any Jeni’s products or return them to the store of purchase for a refund.
The announcement comes after Blue Bell Creameries made a similar recall earlier this week.
