Former Olentangy Teacher Indicted On Sex Crimes

Deleware County Sheriff's Office
Matthew Rausenberg is charged with criminal misconduct involving at least five of his students while teaching in the Olentangy school district.

A Delaware County grand jury Thursday indicted 39 year old Matthew Rausenberg of Columbus on 32 counts alleging sex crimes against children in his classroom. First Assistant Prosecutor Kyle Rohrer outlined the charges saying Rausenberg faces life in prison, if convicted.

“Sexual assaults against five different young ladies, all Jane Does, 28 counts of gross sexual imposition, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of pandering sexual oriented matters involving a juvenile,” says Rohrer.

Rausenberg resigned his teaching position with the Olentangy Local Schools. After initial allegations on March 16th, Rausenberg was removed from Arrowhead Elementary school and arrested. Rausenberg was hired by Olentangy in 2001. The grand jury indictment alleges criminal misconduct dating from 2006 to the present. Rohrer says more charges are possible.

“In fact, we continue to process evidence, we continue to talk to other witnesses as we progress and that’s not unusual in cases like this for us to continue to investigate. And given the nature of these offenses it wouldn’t be unusual for us to add charges,” says Rohrer.

Rausenberg remains in the Delaware County jail in lieu of a one-million dollar bond. An arraignment date has not been scheduled.
