The head of the Franklinton Development Association says Mt. Carmel's decision to move it main hospital out of the neighborhood should have a positive effect on Franklinton revitalization in the long run.

The head of a local development group says a decision by Mt. Carmel hospital officials to move their in-patient care facility out of Franklinton won’t hurt the neighborhood’s revitilization efforts.

Jim Sweeney of the Franklin Development Association says in the short term the move may slow progress in the neighborhood’s redevelopment efforts but will be positive in the long run.”Because

“Because I think it’s gonna present a fantastic redevelopment opportunity for that site, There’s a lot of land there and it’s central to that part of the neighborhood. In working with the hospital and others, I think we can come up with some really cool things that can really affect people’s lives over there and offer more opportunities than maybe even a hospital could offer,” Sweeney said.

Hospital officials have said Mt. Carmel’s emergency department and the School of Nursing will remain on the Franklinton site.
