State officials are investigating a coal mine accident in Marshall County that killed one worker and injured two others.
Murray Energy identified the miner who was killed as John M. “Mike” Garloch of Neffs, Ohio.
West Virginia Department of Commerce spokeswoman Leslie Smithson said Monday that one of the injured miners has been released from a hospital while the other remains hospitalized. She says the 45-year-old Garloch was an assistant longwall coordinator.
The accident occurred Sunday night at Murray Energy’s Marshall County Coal Co.’s Marshall County Mine near Cameron.
Smithson says initial reports indicate the cause of the accident was a roof and rib fall on a longwall face.
A rib is the side of a passage and a face is an exposed area from which coal is being extracted.
