Minimum Wage In Ohio To Increase 15 Cents An Hour

Ohio's minimum wage is scheduled to increase by 15 cents an hour to $8.10 on Jan. 1. The increase will boost the wages of more than 250,000 Ohioans. The minimum wage of workers who receive tips will increase 7 cents to $4.05 an hour. Voters in Ohio approved a constitutional amendment in 2006 that calls for annual increases in the hourly wage. A nonprofit policy group has estimated that the wage increases will produce $36 million in economic growth from higher consumer spending. Another policy group says that nine of the state's 12 most common occupations pay less than $10 an hour.
