Ohio Ranks Fourth In Number Of Farmers Markets

Federal statistics say Ohio now ranks fourth in the number of farmers markets, up from fifth place last year. The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports that numbers released Sunday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture say Ohio has 311 farmers markets. That's behind California (764), New York (638) and Michigan (339). During the past six years, the number of farmers markets has increased by 76 percent across the country, up from 4,685 in 2008 to 8,286 in 2014. According to the agriculture department, the increasing numbers reflect continued demand and growth of farmers markets in every part of the country. The statistics were released for national Farmers Market Week, which is this week.
