State statistics show that motorcycle fatalities in Ohio are declining. The numbers show that the rate has dropped by 21 percent since 2010. Statistics show 133 motorcycle fatalities last year; 163 in 2012; 166 in 2011; and 168 in 2010. So far this year there have been just 28. The total number of motorcycle crashes in the state declined by 16 percent during that time. Figures show motorcyclists were at fault in fatal crashes from 59 percent to 74 percent of the time from 2010 to 2013. Helmets were worn in about one-quarter of those fatal accidents.
