Thousands In Ohio Celebrate King's Life

Roughly 4,000 people gathered to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at an event in Ohio's capital city. The Columbus Dispatch reports the 27th annual King birthday breakfast held Monday at the Columbus convention center featured a keynote address from the Rev. Otis Moss Jr. of Cleveland. The theologian, pastor and civic leader worked with King in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The event also featured choir performances, as well as remarks from various political leaders, including U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman and Gov. John Kasich. Among those attending was 62-year-old Mary Goff of Columbus, who says she experienced segregation as a child. As an adult, she used to use vacation days to celebrate King's birthday and says co-workers scoffed at the thought it might become a holiday.
