Democrats File For New Columbus Area Congressional District

The race for congress is shaping up in Central Ohio's new 3rd district. A democratic primary next spring will feature two seasoned candidates...possibly three....all with name recognition at the polls. Former congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy says she wants to return to Capitol Hill. Kilroy filed petitions early to represent a newly drawn district in Franklin County. Kilroy served in congress from 2008 to 2010. She lost a close contest last year for a different district to Republican Steve Stivers. In the new district, Kilroy will face primary opposition from Grandview Heights state representative Ted Celeste. Ohio State vice president and former state representative Joyce Beatty of Columbus has indicated interest but has not yet filed petitions to run for 3rd district congress. The filing deadline is this afternoon.
