Black and brownouts have been reported along areas of the East Coast. As people there adjust to 100-degree temperatures, there's a demand for electricity that has surpassed the region's supply.
American Electric Power spokesperson Melissa McHenry says Ohio and the Midwest won't face the same energy crisis this summer.
"We're comfortable we can handle excessive temperatures, as long as there isn't another issue that comes along," McHenry says.
McHenry says downed power lines from a car accident or storm, could cause temporary outages, but currently there's no reason to conserve energy.
