Ohio Executes Man who Strangled Teen in 1988

Ohio has executed a serial rapist who strangled a 16-year-old girl in 1988 and recently claimed he could suffer an allergic reaction to the state's lethal injection drug.

Darryl Durr was pronounced dead at 10:36 a.m. Tuesday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. There were no problems with the intravenous injection. Durr grimaced and clenched his fists shortly after it began, then gently laid his head down.

The 46-year-old was convicted of kidnapping Angel Vincent from her home in Elyria on Jan. 31, 1988, while her parents were away at a Super Bowl party. Prosecutors said he raped and strangled her with a chain and hid her body inside traffic barrels placed end-to-end in a park.

Durr was the fourth inmate executed in Ohio this year. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
