Heavy Snowstorm Causes Delays for Schools and the Airport

Due to the heavy snowstorm, around Columbus, many schools have cancelled activities this evening. New Albany Plain Local Westerville City Hilliard City Reynoldsburg Olentangy Local Columbus Catholic Columbus State Community College Ohio Dominican University Ohio State-Mansfield Campus has no evening classes. Ohio State-Marion Campus has no evening classes. North Central State College is closed this evening. Med Central College of Nursing also closed this evening. Ohio University Lancaster and Pickerington campuses are closed. University of Phoenix Columbus campus is closed this evening. Methodist Theological School in Delaware cancelled evening classes. Westerville Public Library is closing at 6p.m.

A heavy snowstorm in the central Ohio area is impacting Port Columbus International airport with many flight delays and cancellations. Several carriers headed to Chicago are impacted including Southwest, United and American Airlines.

Airport Spokesman, David Whitaker says because of the continuing storm that is expected to move east, Continental Airlines has already canceled all flights Wednesday out of Columbus headed to Newark, New Jersey.

Whitaker says the airport is able to keep runways clear of snow but because of storm conditions, some airlines are taking precautions by cancelling flights. The best advice for travelers is to call the airline or check the website for updates.
