Governor Delays Two Executions to Allow Time for Complete Review of Lethal Injection in Ohio

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has delayed the state's next two executions to allow a full review of lethal injection procedures.

Strickland ordered the reprieves Monday for condemned inmates Lawrence Reynolds and Darryl Durr in the midst of a legal battle over Reynolds' execution, which had been scheduled for Thursday.

Strickland says the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction needs more time to finish updating its protocols for dealing with long delays in finding usable veins on inmates.

Strickland stopped the Sept. 15 execution of Romell Broom after executioners failed to find a usable vein after two hours.
