For the first time in more than a quarter century, Ohio's jobless rate topped 11 percent last month.
Figures released Friday by the state show more than 15,000 Ohioans lost their jobs in June, bringing the total number of unemployed to over 662 thousand. That's nearly double the unemployment rate of a year ago.
Brian Harter speaks for the state Department of Job and Family Services. He says while manufacturing continues to be hit hardest by layoffs, the economic crisis is still affecting every industry.
"No, unfortunantly job cuts continue to come pretty much across the board in Ohio."
Harter says there may be some relief in the new figures - the state has seen a slight decrease in the number of mass layoffs. Ohio's unemployment rate is still more than one and a half percent higher than the national average.
