Former Ohio State head basketball coach Jim O'Brien has been awarded more than $2,000,000 in damages for being wrongfully fired in 2004.
Earlier, the Ohio Court of Claims ruled Jim O'Brien was wrongfully fired. On Wednesday the court awarded him a total of $2,250,000 plus interest in damages.
The amount of interest will be determined when a final judgment is made in the case. O'Brien sued Ohio State University after he was fired in June 2004 for giving a potential recruit's mother a $6,000 loan in 1998. In a prepared statement, OSU Vice President, Christopher Culley, says the university stands by its decision to dismiss O'Brien, and expects the court's decision will be appealed.
