Ohio Auditor Is In Intensive Care Unit

State Auditor Betty Montgomery is hospitalized with an inflammation disorder of the peripheral nerves. Montgomery is being treated for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but her office says her condition is not life-threatening. She is being treated in the intensive care unit at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome include weakness or tingling in the legs, which may spread to the arms and upper body.

The 58-year-old Montgomery had been suffering from a chest cold for more than a week when she was admitted Wednesday. Montgomery dropped out of the governor's race in January to run as the Republican nominee for attorney general. She faces state senator Marc Dann in the November election.
