A man arrested in a 12-year-old murder mystery appeared before Municipal Court Judge Scott Van DerKarr this morning.35-year-old Jonathan Gravely is charged in the 1994 death of Stephanie Hummer, an 18-year-old Ohio State freshman from suburban Cincinnati. Her body was found in a field, and investigators said she'd been raped and died from a blow to the head.
Columbus Police say a new state law led them to Gravely. It requires all convicted felons to submit D-N-A samples to a crime database.
Police Sergeant Michael Woods says Gravely submitted a sample because of a 2003 felony conviction for failure to pay child support. Detectives say it matched D-N-A from the crime scene.
