Former Ohio State Marketing Professor Wants New Trial

Two days before his scheduled sentencing on insider trading convictions, attorneys for former Ohio State University marketing professor, Roger Blackwell, have filed motions asking for a new trial.

The motion cites what it calls "new evidence" in the case based on post trial juror comments. Assistant U-S Attorney Douglas Squires says the prosecution will ask the court to reject any motion for a new trial. "The response would be that the juror's comments after trial and deliberations have no bearing on that trial." says Squires

Blackwell was convicted in June on 19 of 27 federal charges alleging he tipped off family and friends about a pending take-over of the former Worthington Foods where he served on the Board of Directors. He remains free on one-million dollars bond until his scheduled sentencing Thursday morning before U-S District Court Judge James Graham.
