14 elementary schools and two middle schools could be closed at the end of this school year. Another building would be used for a new district-wide alternative school.
John Sanford presented a draft of proposed school consolidation scenarios before the task force.
"There's a couple of scenarios that could play out for Southwood. The students from Southwood could be reassigned to Reeb Avenue, but as you see on the table there Reeb Avenue has enough capacity for about 211 students. And to take the entire Southwood population of 280 students would bring that school over capacity."
One of the issues at the meeting was the safety of students. If students have to attend other facilities some will be forced to cross major roadways such as Karl or Morse Roads. Some of the schools being considered for closure are Scioto Trail, Southwood, and Beck Urban Academy.
