Columbus police observed a minute of silence at noon for an officer killed while on special duty guarding a bank.
Dozens of squad cars lined center lane of the street in front of the Statehouse with lights and sirens running. The officers stood in line and saluted.
The suspect in yesterday's fatal shooting during an attempted bank robbery remains at large.
The officer, 33-year-old Bryan Hurst, died in a hospital from a chest wound above his bulletproof vest.
Police say they believe the suspect was wounded when Hurst returned fire. Police spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio today would not confirm if investigators were able to obtain D-N-A from a blood trail he left.
Hurst was working extra jobs to help support his wife and six-month-old daughter.
