Flooding forces evacuations around central Ohio

The rising water of Big Walnut Creek is forcing people who live near river in northeast Columbus to evacuate. Authorities Thursday morning used boats to evacuate some residents near Cherry Bottom Road. Shelters have been set up at the state fairgrounds and at the Gahanna Senior Center.

Flooding of the Scioto River forced the closure of several roads south of Columbus including a portion of 1-71 just south of the split.

In Pickaway County, the sheriff's dept. says the Scioto River is expected to crest eight feet above flood stage at Circleville. In Licking County, sheriff's captain Tom Lee says flooding prompted voluntary evacuations.
