Columbus voters to decide smoking ban

Columbus voters will decide the city's controversial smoking ban on November 2nd. Columbus City Council Wednesday afternoon put the issue on the ballot.

City Council which in June approved a ban on smoking in bars and restaurants, had two choices. It could recind its vote and the ban or it could but the question on the ballot.

That's because smoking ban opponents collected the roughly 5,000 signatures to force a vote.

Marie Collart of the Central Ohio Breathing Association, a supporter of the ban, is confident of a victory on November 2nd.

Opponents of the ban did not attend the special council meeting. They argue the ban infringes on the rights of smokers and bar and restaurant owners and will cost business owners customers and money.
