An Akron couple traveling south of Columbus in August says the horse trailer they were pulling was struck by gunfire. The couple told Ohio Highway Patrol investigators they saw a group of juveniles in the vicinity and one was holding a firearm.
The shooting incident has been linked to eleven others near the south outerbelt, but Franklin County Sheriff's chief deputy Steve Martin says ballistics tests did not positively link the bullet to others involved in the shootings. Martin said there have been no other reports of juveniles with guns. Also on Thursday, Martin said drivers who suspect their car has been shot at should continue driving and not stop. Martin said people should note where they are on the highway and anyone they see in the area and call 9-1-1 as soon as possible.
Police have received more than 800 tips from the public.
