Law enforcement officers have formed a task force to investigating whether a shot that killed a woman as she rode in a car is connected to eight other shots fired at vehicles on the southern portion of the Columbus outerbelt.
Chief Deputy Steve Martin of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office says authorities plan to compare bullets from the shootings that occurred on or near Interstate 270 since May.
Gail Knisley, 62, of Washington Court House was fatally wounded Tuesday morning when a bullet ripped through the driver's door of the eastbound car in which she was a passenger.
Tuesday night, a Pickaway County man's truck was hit by gunfire on Route 23 near the I-270 interchange.
Martin says he's not using the word "sniper" yet. He would not disclose whether ballistics tests connected any of the shootings.
No one else has been injured in the shootings.
