Between pre-registration lists, phone hotlines, and websites, signing up to get a COVID-19 vaccine can be confusing.
University Hospitals (UH) has released several ways people can sign up to receive a COVID-19 vaccine through the hospital system, even if they are not a UH patient, according to a news release.
Vaccines are being administered at the UH Management Services Center in Shaker Heights.
Anyone in the Phase 1B category can pre-register to receive a vaccine from UH, even if their priority group is not eligible yet. This phase includes people over the age of 65, K-12 teachers and school staff, and people with severe congenital, developmental and early-onset medical disorders.
Those with access to the Internet, texting, and email can pre-register by filling out a form on UH’s vaccine .
People who have Internet access but do not text or email should go to the website, type in their home phone number, and mark that they would like to be contacted via text, and enter zeroes for the cell number. If done properly, they will be contacted on their home phone line, according to UH officials.
If someone does not have Internet access, they can call 216-844-3339 and select option 2. They can leave a voicemail, and a staff member will contact them in no more than 24 hours to set up an appointment.
UH is currently administering vaccines by appointment only, according to the release.
In addition, the hospital system is currently building a virtual infrastructure for online scheduling where the patient selects the day, time, and location for their appointment online. This tool is expected to be rolled out in mid-February, said hospital spokesperson Carly Belsterling.
Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth are also issuing vaccines to eligible populations, but these appointments are only available to patients already established in the health systems.
