10BR, Lake Michigan views -- for $22 million

For decades, the Great Lakes have offered locations for corporate magnates to build luxurious houses with remarkable water views. But it's tough to match the pair of Chicago mansions up for sale -- for $22 million -- along the shore of Lake Michigan.

The Eleanor Robinson Countiss House was built nearly a century ago for the heiress of a match fortune, and is now among a handful of remaining lakefront mansions. That building and its companion are owned by the .

According to Crain's Chicago Business, in the early 1950s, Chicago surgeon Max Thorek bought the buildings and donated them to the medical organization. The larger, Countiss mansion was designed by Howard van Doren Shaw to resemble the Petit Trianon at Versailles.

Now, they're dwarfed by the high-rise buildings along the lakefront. But they'd still make a great home -- or maybe the new headquarters of Great Lakes Today.

One caveat: statues of famous physicians not included.
