Citing a rise in COVID cases, Capital University is reinstating a mask mandate inside all campus buildings effective immediately.

"Capital has experienced an increase in COVID cases over the last few weeks, with several positive cases reported this weekend. This mirrors the overall trend in Ohio, which has seen week-over-week increases throughout April," the university wrote in a release.

According to the Bexley university’s COVID-19 dashboard, seven positive COVID-19 cases were reported for the week of April 10. This number is half of what the university was reporting in mid-March, but double the number reported the week of April 3.

The university is also starting to move more events outdoors and plans to use more grab-and-go options for on-campus meals.

Last week the Ohio Department of Health 6,890 new COVID-19 cases between April 14 and 21. That's up about 40% from the previous week, 80% from two weeks earlier, and 122% from three weeks earlier.
