The omicron variant has COVID cases in Ohio climbing at a pace not seen since last January, causing more event cancellations.
Ohio State has canceled the men’s basketball game against New Orleans previously scheduled for Tuesday at Value City Arena because of health and safety concerns. Coach Chris Holtman said players are progressing through COVID protocols but they don’t have the numbers or readiness to play a game yet.

The NHL has postponed Tuesday’s Blue Jackets game against the Blackhawks in Chicago. The Jackets are next scheduled to play Nashville at Nationwide Arena on Thursday.

On Monday, the state reported just more than 8,000 new cases, which is less than the three-week average. Testing was likely down because of the holiday weekend. More than 5,000 Ohioans are currently hospitalized with COVID.
