Pickerington Schools Dropping Mask Mandate Starting January 4

The Pickerington school district is making masks optional after students return from their winter break.

“Now that COVID-19 vaccinations are readily available for students in grades K-6, Pickerington Schools will make masks optional for all K-12 students beginning January 4, 2022,” reads a statement from Superintendent Chris Briggs posted on the district’s website.

The statement said the end date of January 4 was selected to give students time to get vaccinated over the holidays.

“The health and safety of our schools and community has always been our number one priority. So, as we move forward with this mask optional implementation, we encourage all students and staff to follow proper public safety protocols, which include asking those who are not vaccinated to wear masks,” Briggs wrote.

Quarantine rules will remain for both vaccinated and unvaccinated students.
