ProMusica Closes 38th Season with a Bang

ProMusica Chamber Orchestra closes its season this weekend with what they hope becomes a long-running tradition—music director David Danzmayr and creative partner and principal guest artist Vadim Gluzman on stage together.

The Saturday and Sunday performances also feature special guest violist Paul Neubauer, teaming up with Gluzman for Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra. It is one of two Mozart works on the program, the other being his 29th symphony.

Neubauer and Gluzman joined me in the Classical 101 studios this morning for a conversation about their upcoming appearances. Neubauer was in Columbus not too many years ago to perform and record Joan Tower's viola concerto Purple Rhapsody.

One of the interesting details about this work is Mozart wrote the viola part in a completely different key.

The violin and viola are equal partners in this piece, which has some sublime moments.

According to Neubauer and Gluzman, while it's not necessary to insert adjectives in a description of Mozart's music, this work has moments that are transcendent.

Another exciting aspect of this concert is that it's your opportunity to hear some of the music ProMusica is performing on its first tour outside of Ohio. Gluzman, Neubauer and ProMusica are playing the North Shore Chamber Music Festival on June 7, 9 and 10 in Chicago.

"ProMusica will join a stellar roster of other guest artists featured in the festival, including principal musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra, as well as members of the esteemed Canadian Brass and artists of New York’s Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society," says ProMusica marketing and communications manager Brittany Lockman.

Neubauer and Gluzman discuss ProMusica's first tour, which takes them to Chicago’s seventh annual North Shore Chamber Music Festival.

It's a grand finish to ProMusica's 2016-17 season. Following each concert, you're invited to stay afterward to enjoy some tasty morsels from Cornucopia Caterers and join me for Coda, a conversation with Danzmayr, Gluzman and Neubauer. Be sure to bring your questions!
