Opera Columbus welcomes listeners of all ages and all abilities to enjoy and interact with opera on their level this weekend.

Opera Columbus is offering a special program for kids on the autism spectrum.

Improv Opera  will be presented at the Lincoln Theater ballroom on Saturday, October 31 at noon. The event is free and open to all. No tickets are required.

"What happens when you mix four opera singers, one box of stage props, a dash of operatic terminology, and the imagination of the audience? With "fill in the blank" multiple choice questions, Improv Opera allows the audience to decide the fate of the performers as they create a world premiere opera that is then performed in front of their very eyes."

Saturday's performance will feature sound and lighting adjustments geared to the comfort of kids on the spectrum, many of whom have sensory issues. These 'sensory friendly' performances are becoming increasingly popular in central Ohio. Crosswoods Cinemas, Columbus Children's Theatre and CATCO are now joined by Opera Columbus in making the arts truly available to all.

This just in! New Albany Symphony, Columbus Dance Theatre and Jym Ganahl will collaborate on sensory-friendly performances of Peter and the Wolf at the McCoy Performing Arts Center, New Albany of  February 6 and 7.

The Arts and Autism: Improv Opera is presented by VSA Ohio, Autism Speaks/Autism Treatment Network, Autism Society of Ohio, CAPA, Center for Autism Services and Transition (CAST), Helping Hands Center for Special Needs, and Opera Columbus.

Christopher Purdy is Classical 101's early morning host, 7-10 a.m. weekdays.
