Carl Nielsen, Denmark's greatest composer, was born 150 years ago on June 9, 1865. Appreciation of his music has been steadily growing (as it should) outside of Denmark, with more and more prominent conductors and orchestras recording his six symphonies and other works.
For example, the New York Philharmonic with Alan Gilbert are recording and performing all of Nielsen's works for orchestra as part of their "Nielsen Project." Read about it here as WQXR suggests: "Five Ways to Celebrate Carl Nielsen's 150 th Birthday."
