Music for harp and guitar from the new CD “Together” featuring Yolanda Kondonassis and Jason Vieaux will be on the next Fretworks program Saturday evening at 7 and Wednesday at 7 on Classical 101. When Jason Vieaux was with us last month, he talked enthusiastically about his collaboration with the famed harpist, and now this disc is out.
“Together,” from Azica Records, is Vieaux’s followup to “Play,” for which he won the 2014 Grammy Award for best solo classical performance. This new recording with the multiple-time Grammy-nominated Kondonassis contains all original works for harp and guitar. We’ll hear Suite magica by Argentinian composer Maximo Diego Pujol. Both Yolanda Kondonassis and Jason Vieaux live in the Cleveland area and have performed together on a number of occasions and wanted to further explore the musical possibilities of the harp and guitar as a duo.

Pepe Romero is the soloist with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields conducted by Iona Brown.
American classical guitarist Martha Masters, who is currently the executive vice-president of the Guitar Foundation of America, won the GFA solo guitar competition in 2000. A month later, she went on to win the Andres Segovia International Guitar Competition in Linares, Spain. We’ll hear Alexander Tansman’s Cavatina from her 2001 Naxos Guitar Recital recording. The Polish-born composer Alexander Tansman, who met Andres Segovia in Paris, wrote the five movement Cavatina for him in 1951.
