Special Music On Tap For July 4th Weekend From Classical 101

The July 4th weekend is when most of us take time to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and maybe take a short trip. This Independence Day, I hope you'll spend some time with Classical 101, because we have some great music to help you celebrate!

Saturday from 8am - 1pm, I'll be playing some great patriotic favorites such as:

  • Hershy Kay's Stars and Stripes
  • Souvenir d'Amerique (better known as the Variations on Yankee Doodle) by Henri Vieuxtemps
  • Variations on America by Charles Ives
  • and others

Then it's an All-American Sunday with Jennifer Hambrick from 10am-1pm, including:

  • Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait and his Canticle of Freedom
  • George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue
  • Ferde Grofe's Mississippi Suite
  • Peter Boyer's Ellis Island, The Dream of America
  • and others

On Monday the 4th, John Rittmeyer features Charles Ives' Symphony No. 3, The Camp Meeting during Symphony at 7. That will be followed at 8pm by the First Community Church Chancel Choir, joined by members of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Ronald J. Jenkins conducts Morning Song, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War.  Music by Aaron Copland, Morton Gould, African-American spirituals, and a Civil War song are among the featured works. Celebrate Independence Day with us on Classical 101...Classical music all day, every day!
