When the Grammy-winning San Francisco-based a cappella male chorus Chanticleer does something new, it's big news in the classical music world. And when that "something new" showcases Columbus, Ohio, it's even bigger news for those of us who call the Cap City home. Columbus' Short North district figures as the backdrop for Chanticleer's first-ever music video, released Friday, of Erika Lloyd's (Little Grey Girlfriend) tender indie pop ballad "Cells Planets." The choir shot much of the video with cell phones and webcams while in Columbus last month to perform what turned out to be a burn-up concert on Chamber Music Columbus' 2010-11 season at the Southern Theatre. Whether or not you know Ohio's capital, you can appreciate the musical sensitivity of countertenor soloist Casey Breves and his Chanticleer colleagues in their interpretation of "Cells Planets." And if you do know our city, then you'll no doubt recognize the Short North's signature shabby-chic-ness and the great Short North establishments Black Olive, On Paper, Posh Pets, Phia Salon and the Milk Bar boutique - as well as one of the district's fabled High Street arches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl12ZXZeqa4 At their concert here in Columbus last month, Chanticleer literally had the audience whooping and hollering for more. And now we've got it.
