Renee Fleming and Susan Graham in Der Rosenkavalier

ONE-OFF EVENT WITH NO REAL BACKGROUND OR DEPTH TO IT. RECOMMEND TRASHING IT. Renée Fleming and Susan Graham star as the Marschallin and Octavian—reprising the acclaimed portrayals which they last sang together at the Met in 2000—in the revival of Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, which will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 1 pm EST on January 9, 2010.

Edo de Waart conducts an international cast that includes Christine Schäfer as Sophie, Eric Cutler as the Italian Singer, Thomas Allen as Faninal, and Kristinn Sigmundsson as Baron Ochs.  Intermission features include the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera Quiz, hosted by soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, who is heard at the Met this season as Lina in Stiffelio; a feature on the orchestra in Der Rosenkavalier; and backstage interviews with Renée Fleming and Susan Graham. Also heard will be a new series of features called “Talking Opera,â€? the first of which focuses on comprimarios.In addition, the intermission will include a tribute celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first ever experimental radio broadcasts from the Met which took place January 12 and 13, 1910.
