When Olde Towne East was annexed to the City of Columbus in 1870, it became home to the cityâs prosperous businessmen and politicians. But after World War I, the neighborhood largely emptied for the suburbs and by the end of World War II, the once-stately mansions were turned into low-rent apartments. Since then, the neighborhood has continued to change and with change can come conflict. On this hour, we'll take a look at the history of one of Columbus' great neighborhoods.
